Homemade Basil Butter

I was so excited when John brought home a basil plant for me a couple of months ago.  I absolutely adore basil.  I love the intoxicating spicy fragrance and the wonderful flavor.

Our basil plant has been doing very well, and even after I gave my sister a bunch of fresh basil leaves a few days ago, we still had plenty left.  I wanted to make something really versatile with the basil, so I decided to make some basil butter, which could be added into a number of different things – pasta, vegetables, etc.

Basil butter is so quick and easy to make.  All you need is a stick of butter and 4 tablespoons of chopped up fresh basil.  You can use your food processor to mix it all up together, but I just smushed it together in a bowl with a fork.

After it was all mixed together, I wrapped it up in plastic wrap, shaped it into a little log, and put it in the refrigerator for a couple of hours to harden a bit.

Here’s the finished product!  I can’t wait to start adding this butter to my favorite dishes now.  That is, if I can keep myself from devouring the entire thing with a loaf of bread in one sitting!
