Homemade Peanut Butter

So this just might be my favorite food of all time- PEANUT BUTTER!  What could be better than homemade peanut butter! As kids we all loved a good Pb&J sandwich -but you probably never thought of peanut butter as a health food!  Peanut butter is hefty on the fat, so that will make you fat, right?  WRONG!!  Peanut butter contains the right (healthy!) kind of fats.  It has the same ratio of saturated to unsaturated fats as olive oil!  And the poly and unsaturated fats reduce your risk of developing heart disease by reducing ‘bad’ cholesterol 🙂 BUT, this is with Natural Peanut Butter, not the kind with hydrogenated oils, sugar, etc added!

I love Smuckers Natural Peanut Butter and ever since I got a food processor I had been wondering why I didn’t try to make my own peanut butter-all it is, is peanuts and a little sea salt (if yo wish)!  Boy am I glad I tried it!  Now I love making my own peanut butter and it takes less than 5 minutes 🙂

So here are your ingredients/equipment!

  • 1 160z jar of Dry Roasted Peanuts
  • Pink Himalayan Sea Salt
  • A Food Processor

Directions:

1.  Place 16 oz of peanuts in the food processor and run for about two minutes.

2.  Scrape down the sides, add a little Pink Himalayan Sea Salt (I added two twists) and run for about another two minutes until the peanut butter is nice and smooth!  Depending on your food processor, you may need to run longer, just make sure the peanut butter is nice and creamy!

3.  Store Peanut Butter in an airtight jar!

This is super delicious!! But remember moderation is key 🙂
