In many ways, this is the perfect breakfast. It delivers plenty of vitamins, fiber, calcium and protein. These smoothies are sweetened naturally by the fruit and just a touch of honey. My kids go bananas when I announce that we’re making smoothies for breakfast. For them, I like to add a slice of whole grain toast with almond butter to include a bit of healthy fat in the meal.
Very Berry Smoothies
Servings 4 cups
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
- 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
- 1/2 cup frozen peaches
- 1 ripe banana peeled and broken into chunks
- 1 clementine peeled and broken into sections
- 1 tablespoon old-fashioned oats uncooked (not the quick cooking kind)
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 6 oz. 0% Greek yogurt
- 1 cup skim milk

Instructions
- Place all ingredients in a blender in the order listed. Blend until very smooth, about one minute. Since most of the fruit is frozen, the smoothie should be very cold but if you’d like it colder, add a few ice cubes and blend again until ice cubes are broken down. Pour into chilled glasses and enjoy!

Quick Tips
1. I like to keep bags of frozen fruit on hand for a quick smoothie breakfast. My favorites – mango, pineapple, peaches, mixed berries and papaya.
2. I happened to have clementines when I made this recently, but you can also use 1/2 orange or a tangerine. When I have none of those items on hand, I use a tablespoon of orange juice concentrate, which I keep in my freezer since we almost never have orange juice on hand. If you keep OJ on hand, you can also use a splash of OJ. All you need is about 1/4 cup at most to add a bit of citrus tang and a touch of sweetness.
